Here’s a chance to strut your stuff in front of thousands of rabid race fans! New England Dragway is kicking off the inaugural Junior Dragster Clash as part of the Jet Cars Under the Stars event presented by the New England Ford Dealers on August 10, 2013. Here’s how it works.
The race is limited to 8 competitors who will be chosen by a lottery. Those “Lucky 8” competitors get the opportunity to compete in a supercharged atmosphere filled with the sound and fury of Jet Funny cars, Jet Dragsters, Nitro Burning Nostalgia Funny Cars, Wheelstanders, Pro Comp and some of the best sportsman racing in the country.
Qualifying gets underway at 11:00 am. First round of exhibition cars start at 6:00 pm followed by the first round of the Jr. Dragster Clash eliminations.
New England Dragway is initiating an updated restricted area crew wristband policy for its 2013 racing season. Restricted area wristbands will now cost $5.00. Crewmembers can purchase the wristband at credentials after signing the waiver. This is charge is in addition to the normal gate entry fee. This policy update was necessitated by the need to more closely monitor and strongly enforce starting line and waterbox restricted area access.
Along with the fee increase the crew line behind the water box is relocating closer to the top of staging. These changes are brought about due to people disregarding the restricted area policy and the need to police it more often. The inherent dangers of being in this area have become increasingly more apparent in recent years. Everybody’s cooperation in the Restricted Area Policy is necessary to keep further restrictions from being enforced.
Pit parking during the week will be restricted to New England Dragway points members only and restricted to the upper pit area.

Improvements for 2013 Racing Season and the Inaugural NHRA New England Nationals continue to move along. Here’s a quick update.
NHRA recently amended the roll bar rule for street legal vehicles. Model year 2008 and newer unaltered, OEM production vehicles running slower than 9.99 seconds and under 135 MPH do not have to meet the roll bar requirements for ET racing. This is great news for our Wednesday and Friday Street Night competitors that had to slow down or stop racing entirely because of the 11.49 elapsed time rule. Some restrictions still remain, however. All drivers must meet the Helmet and Protective Clothing requirements. Convertibles and T-Top entries must still comply with the current NHRA roll bar rule.
“This is great news for our Street Night competitors,” said Race Director Ron Heath. “It will enhance many racers’ experience at New England Dragway. The change comes at a great time. New England Dragway is scheduling “No Time Grudge Racing” on Wednesday’s throughout the season. Heath feels the rule change will make for some pretty tough competition and add plenty of excitement. More information will be published in the upcoming 2013 New England Dragway schedule.
New England Dragway will add a new index to the Outlaw 10.5 Series. In addition to the existing 8.50, 9.50, 10.50, and 11.50 indexes a 12.50 index will debut in 2013. All Outlaw 10.5 vehicle requirements will remain in place for the 12.50 class that will be called True Street (TS). The new index will be run at all Outlaw 10.5 events in 2013. The new index is aimed at the drag racing enthusiast who wants to get involved in the heads up racing scene for a minimal investment. Many of the new vehicles coming off the showroom floor are capable of running this class. The upcoming 2013 New England Dragway Handbook will have complete details.
